Whenever I encounter a new word in a podcast or something I am reading I write it down, look it up, and record the definition. Sometime later, I batch and publish. Like now. On substack. Iām done with facebook!
hacktivist - person who breaks into a computer system in order to pursue a political or social aim.
faff - (British English) to dither, futz, waste time, be ineffectual.
greigite - iron sulfide mineral with the chemical formula Fe2+Fe3+2S4. It is the sulfur equivalent of the iron oxide magnetite.
ladderane - organic molecule containing two or more fused cyclobutane rings.
gleichschaltung - process where the Nazi Party established totalitarian control and coordination over all aspects of German society.
differintegral - in fractional calculus (check it out): a combined differentiation/integration operator.
concision - giving a lot of information using few words (being concise).
eutectic - mixture of substances that melts at a temperature lower than the melting points of the separate constituents.
peritectic - mixture of substances that solidifies at a temperature higher than the melting points of the separate constituents.
impost - tax levied on imports. or a lead weight to handicap in horse racing. or the top part of a pillar that supports an arch.
mantilla - Spanish scarf worn over the hair.
wimple - medieval form of female headcovering: a large piece of cloth worn draped around the neck and chin.
zucchetto - Roman Catholic clerics skull-cap.
niqab - veil worn by some Muslim women in public, covering all of the face apart from the eyes.
chador - cloak worn by Shia Muslim women covering the upper body and head.
ghoonghat - headcovering worn by some married Hindu, Sikh, and Jain women.
kippah - a yarmulke.
tichel (or schpitzel) - headscarf worn by married (orthodox) Jewish women.
dastÄr - Sikh turban.
chunni - long scarf worn by Asian women.
capotain - slightly conical hat, usually black, worn by men and women in Europe in the 17th century.
contretemps - a minor dispute or minor mishap.
miscegenation - interbreeding of people considered to be of different racial types.
grike - a crevice, chink, or widened joint in rock. Or a ravine on the side of a hill.
bladderwrack - a common seaweed.
ashplant - a walking stick.
collier - a ship carrying coal, or a coal miner.
perflation - blowing.
derogate - to lessen the importance or value of.
exanthem (or exanthema) - skin eruption accompanying certain infectious diseases.
paean - song of praise, joy, or triumph.
doolally - temporarily deranged or feeble-minded.
immunobridging - using immunological results from experiments in one species to conclude about another species.
bioturbation - disturbance of sedimentary deposits by biological organisms.
calumny - slander, or defamation of character.
calumniate - to make false, defaming statements.
lede - opening sentence of paragraph of a news story.
hyaline - having a glassy, translucent appearance.
dragoon - to coerce, pressure, or force.
anamorphosis - distorted projection requiring the viewer to occupy a specific vantage point or use special devices to view.
fougerite - green rust.
shambolic - disorganized, muddled, confused.
transmon - particular kind of superconducting qbit.
excipient - an inactive substance that acts as a vehicle for a drug or other substance.
eosinophil - a kind of white blood cell.
granzyme - a protease released by CTLs and NK cells.
perforin - protein released by killer cells to cause perforation of the membrane of other cells.
cabotage - transport between places in a country by an operator from another country.
yersinia - genus of gram-negative bacteria including several important pathogens.
cullet - broken glass for remelting.
omerta- code of silence (Mafia).
acedia - spiritual or mental sloth; apathy.
thrombus - blood clot.
mithridate - semi-mythical antidote to poison, with many ingredients.
mithridatism - protecting oneself against a poison by gradually self-administering non-lethal amounts.
apotheosize - elevate in stature or reputation.
sesquipedalian - (of a word) polysyllabic; long: long-winded.
logophilia - love of words.
execrable - extremely bad or unpleasant.
interactome - whole set of molecular interactions in a particular cell.
exposome - combination of all environmental factors which a cell or organism is exposed to.
Georgism - economic ideology holding that, although people should own the value they produce themselves, the economic rent derived from landāincluding from all natural resources, the commons, and urban locationsāshould belong equally to all members of society.
Fortean - relating to or denoting paranormal phenomena.
zetetic - proceeding by inquiry.
badinage - repartee.
pleiotropy - production by a single gene of two or more effects.
hydronym - type of toponym that designates a proper name of a body of water.

cloture - procedure for ending a debate and taking a vote.
sortition - action of selecting something by the casting or drawing of lots.
crore - ten million; especially of rupees, units of measurement, or people.

evolute - curve which is the locus of the centers of curvature of another curve (its involute).

malefactor - person who commits a crime or some other wrong.
fraktur - German style of black (āGothicā) letter.
forend - part of a rifle, underneath the barrel, where it is supported by the hand.
yeet - (slang) discard an item at high velocity
cadastral - (of a map or survey) showing the extent, value, and ownership of land, especially for taxation.

difluent - flow which diverges.
cofluent - flow which converges.
confluent - flowing together.
confluence - meeting of two rivers.
isopleth - line on a map connecting points having equal incidence of a specified meteorological feature.
isohypse - (or isarithm): a contour line. A curve of constant value for a function of two variables.
isocline - line on a diagram or map connecting points of equal gradient or inclination.
thalweg - line connecting the lowest points of successive cross-sections along the course of a valley or river.
hyponym - word of more specific meaning than a general or superordinate term applicable to it. For example, spoon is a hyponym of cutlery. Contrasted with hypernym.

plasmablast - cell that is a precursor of a plasma cell and develops from an activated B cell.
sedenions - an interesting 16-dimensional algebra over the reals.
magma (or binar) - set equipped with a single binary operation that must be closed - no other properties are imposed.
runcination - higher order truncation of a polytope.
neutropenic - presence of abnormally few neutrophils.
immunopeptidome - the whole set of peptides represented on the cell surface in the context of MHC and recognizable by T cells.
singulate - (noun) A unit or units separated into individual parts or pieces from a larger conjoined batch. (verb) act or process of separating conjoined units into individual parts or pieces.
adjuvantation - conversion into an adjuvant.
archlute - bass lute.
theorbo - large lute with the neck extended to carry several long bass strings.
traverso - baroque transverse wooden flute with conical bore.
bullpup - firearm whose action is located behind the trigger instead of in front of it.
incipit - the opening words of a text.
arborescent - resembling a tree in growth or appearance.
paratope - the part of an antibody that binds to an antigen (n.b. epitope)
anomie - lack of the usual social or ethical standards in an individual or group.
reactogenic - capable of causing a reaction (especially immunological).
rebarbative - unattractive or objectionable.
hapa - any person of East Asian or Southeast Asian admixture.
remonstrate - make forceful (verbal) protest.
accoucheur - male midwife
parturient - about to give birth.
backronym - word turned into an acronym by creating a phrase whose initial letters match the word, e.g. bing = because itās not Google.
retronym - term created to distinguish the original or older version or form of something (e.g. film camera, snail mail).
pnictogen - Any element from group 15, which includes nitrogen, phosphorus, arsenic, antimony and bismuth.
allotrope(s) - different form(s) of an elemental compound. e.g. graphite and diamond.
criminate - To accuse, charge, denounce and/or prove (a person) guilty of a crime; or to represent (a thing or action) as criminal.
repose - several meanings, but I did not know: (v) place one's confidence or trust in.
misprision - concealing, or not admitting knowledge of a crime.
cupidity - greed for money or possessions.
phenology - study of cyclical seasonal natural phenomena, especially with regards to plants and animals.
greeble (or nurnie) - a detail added to a larger object to makes it appear more complex.
indexical (or deictic) - a word or expression whose meaning is dependent on the context in which it is used.
secund - arranged on one side only (such as the flowers of lily of the valley).
toxicant - a toxic substance introduced into the environment, e.g. a pesticide.
fluxon - quantum of electromagnetic flux.
hopium - (slang) addiction to false hopes.
pabulite - fossilized remains of a creature that has been partly consumed by a predator.
dispositive - relating to or bringing about the settlement of an issue or the disposition of property.
perseverate - repeat or prolong an action, thought, or utterance after whatever prompted it has ceased.
axode - the (ruled surface) locus of all instantaneous axes of a moving body.
centrode (or polode) -in kinematics, is the path traced by the instantaneous center of rotation of a rigid body.
nostrum - a medicine, especially one that is not considered effective, prepared by an unqualified person. Or a pet project or favorite remedy, especially one for bringing about some social or political reform or improvement.
muscularis - thin layer (lamina) of muscle of the gastrointestinal tract.
lodestar - star that is used to guide the course of a ship, especially the Pole Star (North Star).
rhizobia - diazotrophic bacteria that fix nitrogen after becoming established inside the root nodules of legumes.
seroconvert - change from a seronegative (no antibodies) to a seropositive (expressing antibodies) condition.
viremia - presence of viruses in the blood.
pegylate - covalent or non-covalent attachment or amalgamation of polyethylene glycol (PEG).

atonia - genus of insects.
duende - quality of passion and inspiration. (in the folklore of Spain) a supernatural being or spirit resembling a pixie or imp.

exapt- utilization of a structure or feature for a function other than that for which it was developed through natural selection.
kayfabe - (professional wrestling) portrayal of staged events within the industry as "real" or "true", specifically the portrayal of competition, rivalries, and relationships between participants as being genuine and not staged.

integument - tough outer protective layer, especially that of an animal or plant.

aleatory - depending on the throw of a dice or on chance; random.
tortfeasor - person who commits a tort.
calumny - making of false and defamatory statements about someone in order to damage their reputation; slander.
traducement - speak badly of or tell lies about (someone) so as to damage their reputation.
demotic - denoting or relating to the kind of language used by ordinary people; popular or colloquial.
argot - slang or jargon of a particular group.
isotone - nuclides with the same neutron count, but different proton count.
tetration - operation based on repeated, exponentiation. The same way exponentiation is repeated multiplication.
trapezohedron, antidipyramid, antibipyramid, or deltohedron - dual polyhedron of an n-gonal antiprism.
dodecadodecahedron - nonconvex polyhedron with twenty-four faces, thirty vertices, and sixty edges..
hosohedron - tessellation of lunes on a spherical surface, such that each lune shares the same two vertices.
lune - crescent-shaped figure formed on a sphere or plane by two arcs intersecting at two points.
Isohedral - polyhedron or a tiling all of whose faces are the same.
isotoxal - symmetries which act transitively on the edges of a polytope or tiling.
abarization - make insensitive to air pressure.
rime - (n) frost formed on cold objects by the rapid freezing of water vapor in cloud or fog. (v) cover (an object) with hoarfrost.
hoarfrost - crystalline deposit of frozen water vapor formed in clear still weather on vegetation, fences, etc.
graupel - granular snow pellets ācalled also soft hail.
precipitant - cause of a particular action or event. (chemistry) substance that causes the precipitation go another substance.
pintle - one of the pins that fit into the gudgeons and so suspend the rudder.
rehypothecation - when banks/brokers use assets, for their own purposes, that were posted as collateral by their clients.
hypothecation - occurs when an asset is pledged as collateral to secure a loan. The owner retains ownership rights.
